Modules taught at the sub-department of Bioprocess Engineering provide students with basic knowledge in the field of bioprocess engineering, with special emphasis on food biotechnology and environmental biotechnology. The research efforts at the sub-department include the improvement of biotechnological methods for food and fermented beverages production, mainly malt and beer production and fruit wines production. Furthermore, they include the application of basic biotechnological and engineering principles in environmental protection - wastewater treatment, biodegradation of synthetic dyes by fungi, re-use of waste lignocellulosic materials as alternative adsorbents for the removal of pollutants from wastewater.
